VMware vCenter Appliance 6 – 503 Service Unavailable after reboot

This was the message I received after a reboot of a vCenter Appliance server (Version 6.0 Update 2), when I was browsing to the web interface of the vCenter server.

503 Service Unavailable (Failed to connect to endpoint:  [N7Vmacore4Http16LocalServiceSpecE:0x7fc8bad2f810] _serverNamespace = /vsphere-  client _isRedirect = false _port = 9090)

Another reboot of the vCenter server is not fixing the problem. .
Created a SSH session towards the vCenter server and checked the running services.

Go in shell modus first on the vCenter server:
#shell.set --enabled True
#shell

#service-control --status

Received the following result:

Three services where not started:

  • vmware-mbcs (VMware Message Bus Configuration Service)
  • vmware-netdumper (VMware vSphere ESXi Dump Collector)
  • vmware-rbd-watchdog (VMware vSphere Auto Deploy Waiter)

Started those three services

#service-control --start vmware-rbd-watchdog  vmware-netdumper vmware-mbcs

After the successful start of the three services, the problem was disappeared and I could login to the vCenter webpage.
